Q: Do they make a pump & tank for sewage wasted by Dave from California on January 03, 2012
A: You might take a look at the Superior model 93015 1/2 HP Cast Iron Sewage Pump System, the Little Giant model WCSS50 4/10 HP Cast Iron Sewage Pump System or the Burcam model 400419T 4/10 HP Heavy Duty Cast Iron Sewage Pump System. All 3 systems are compete with the pump, basin & basin cover. Another consideration would be the Burcam model 450475 1/2 HP Easy Flush Sewage Pump System. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: are your crocks applicable for outside use? can they be buried? by Anonymous on May 16, 2011
A: As long as they are installed below the frost line, there should not be any problems. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Does this mean I have to drill holes in the side with a hole saw? by Ted from New Jersey on March 16, 2011
A: Yes, you will ned to drill holes around the basin. If water is coming in from close to the top of the basin, or water will seep into the area surrounding the basin, place holes on the first few inches of the basin. If the water will enter the basin from lower in the pit, drill holes the entire way down the basin. You should also drill holes in the bottom to prevent the basin from floating up if the area surrounding the basin fills with too much water. You should use either a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch drill bit. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: How come there are no holes in the sides to allow the water to enter? by Joe from Massachusetts on January 31, 2011
A: We sell this model because it can be customized to fit your application. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Does my basin need to fit flush with the concrete floor around it? Or is it ok to stick up 1-2"? by Brett from Kansas on January 17, 2011
A: Hello Brett, Ideally, you should install your basin in the "low" point of your floor so that any collection of water will naturally "drain" into you basin. by Jim, Product Expert

Good Product/Bad Advice
SPD Responds: While we would like to give as much advice as possible about installing sump/sewage basins, it is very difficult because of the complexity of the install. Installing these basins (which normally include a french drain or drain tile system for maximum water removal) is on the far end of a "DIY" project. Installing a basin incorrectly can cause serious foundation or structural damage to your home. If you're unfamiliar with the installation process, it's always best to contact a licensed plumber.
The sump pump is exceptionally quiet and efficient. The cover could have had more holes or at least punch outs for the auxiliary pump. The basin came without holes pre-drilled and had no instructions as to the placement. I wrote an e-mail to the so-called experts at Sump Pumps Direct inquiring where to place the holes. I received back the advice to check online, that there were many places that gave this advice. After some searching I found one place with advice on placement, but was very disappointed that the self professed experts could not take time to give this advice. So product good but advice very bad.

Looks Good
I received the four components to install a sump pump all in one box. The pump was set loose in the basin and probably during shipping bounced around enough to break the bottom of the basin. Since I wanted to get the project finished and needed to drill holes in the bottom anyway I installed it. All other parts are good. No water to test it now that comes in the spring. It looks good.

First Pump Installation Ever
After reading reviews and comments, I ordered a BA33M, basin, etc, for a new installation in an older home. Delivery was quick, everything in good shape, and it was time to get to work. Drilling/busting up 100-year-old 4" concrete and digging out Missouri clay in the middle of summer was about as much fun as you can imagine. Some notes from a first-timer that may be helpful to others:
1. I used a hole diameter of 40 inches or so.
2. Drilled holes into concrete using a stout rotary hammer and a long 12" bit, with the holes no more than 3 inches apart. Note: Let the hammer do the work. Don't press down too hard.
3. Jackel recommends 3-4 inches of gravel under the basin. Between that and the gravel around the sides of the basin, I used about 6-7 cu feet of gravel total (allowed 3 inches from top of gravel to basement floor surface).
4. I had 2 x 80 lbs of concrete laying around, and ended up using about 80% of it.
To make a short story long, got the basin installed, PVC hooked up (also a first for me, but easy), dumped some water in the basin, and the pump did it's thing from the get-go.
Thanks to Sump Pumps direct for their fine products and responsiveness. Also thanks to ya'll for taking the time to write informative reviews.

Spend The Extra Cash For A Cleaner Look
I wanted a nice clean install, flush, with a good seal on the cap. Unfortunately I could not find anything like that at my local home depot or plumbing supply stores.
The up front cost is quite more but this sump basin is heavy duty, the plastic is extremely thick and the cap seals great. I could probably jump up and down on the top and it wouldn't budge at all.

Great Quality
I recently purchased a Zoeller M53 sump pump and Jackel basin and cover. I could not be more pleased with the quality and operation of both. The pump is heavy duty and looks like it will last for ever.
I wish I knew about Jackel basins a few years ago. The basin is super strong and large enough for two pumps if needed.
Thanks for providing such quality products. Keep up the good work.
