Q: How many watts?

Is this pump use regular plug?
Same plug, just like model of Liberty Pumps 257(I have this model)?

If this pump keeps pumping for 3-6 hours, will it be OK?

by Chuck from New York on July 15, 2014

A: The Liberty LE51A is rated at 120V with a standard AC plug just like the 257. The watt ratings are 1140 running watts and 2700 starting amps.
These pumps are rated to run for 8 hrs. continuous fully submerged, with at least an hour off in between.

Q: Hi Jim - can this pump be used as a sump pump?

Liberty Pumps LE51A - 1/2 HP Cast Iron Sewage Pump (2") w/ Piggyback Tether Float

Also thinking of emergency use to dewater a flooded backyard.

Thanks!

by Brian from New York on August 23, 2012

A: Sure! Because of their higher capacity and small solid handling capability, sewage pumps are a common choice for outdoor applications. Just be sure to keep the electrical connections well protected and if its a permanent installation, please take proper steps to protect the pump and discharge pipe from freezing.

This is a great sewage pump for light commercial duty applications and residential applications and earns our "Better" recommendation. This pump has a heavy-duty epoxy-coated cast iron housing making it more corrosion-resistant for extended pump life.

Another bonus is the 10' quick disconnect power cord which gives you the ability to easily replace the cord without breaking the seals.

Let's face it, you want to change out your sewage pump as infrequently as possible. It's... more

Unbelieveable!!!!!
At the recommendation of a friend of mine who is a master plumber, I purchased this pump. For the last two months, I have had at least 1-2 inches of standing water in my basement. I had an wet basement expert come by and quoted me $30K to solve my problem. A much lesser quote to install a pump that only did 3600GPH, that was going to cost over $1000. With some minor instructions from my plumber friend (I have zero experience with plumbing), I installed this pump and watched the water in my... more

Sump Pumps
I reside in California and have apartment complexes in Corpus Christi TX. We needed Sump Pumps, went on line to compare prices.

We found the best prices at SUMP PUMPS DIRECT. The Staff was very helpful in guiding us about the size of the pump and executed my order promptly and efficiently.

They are on my 'book' of contractors I will deal with and recommend to any person/company requiring Sump Pump and other related products.

Liberty Sump Pumps
We purchased two sump pumps and they we delivered very quickly. The installation was not hard and did not take long.

We have tried them out by filling up the area they were installed in and they drained fast.

1 Month In No Problems
6 years ago the primary ejector failed and I replaced it with a 5 star expensive green ejector made in WI. 19 months ago, while tending to a fish tank, a child siphoned a rag into the pump and burned it up. I replaced the nice expensive pump with the exact same one (make, model). Only this time, the pump wasn't made in WI, it was made in China with a 12 month warranty. DEAD in 19 months.

I hope this American made Liberty fairs better.

Great Pump For Septic Run Off Tank.
I have a gravity flow septic system. My drainage field is a total disaster. I have to relocate my drainage field but in the meantime I have to seal it off and keep overflow tank drained. My Liberty LE51A was a perfect solution. So perfect that I tend to forget about my drain field issue. I just need to contact Sump Pumps Direct to see if I can increase the Float Level Bulb by 3' to extend the time before the pump cycles - A minor issue. Great pump - Perfect choice.
Pros: Durable, Exceeded Expectations, Reliable, High Quality

"Simple and Sweet - I found Sump Pumps Direct online during a Publishers Clearing House "$7000.00 A Week For Life" search. I went to the site, found my pump, ordered my pump and was pumping sewage in 3 days - Took about 30 minutes online because I spent most of the time looking at all the great stuff on the web site. Plus - I got an entry for the "$7000.00 Dollars A Week For Life" PCH Search."

What The Heck Is Wrong With My Le51a?
In June 2013 I purchased an LE51A - A perfect solution for me - "See my review" higher up in the review page - I stand by that review. 3 days ago Dec. 30, 2014 my LE51A died and I can find no reason why - The pump has performed perfectly.

I suppose BMWs have a bad apple that slips by from time to time but they correct the problem post haste - So does PCH and WalMart for a $10 window fan or a bad charge. That's just good customer business.

I have contacted PED via/email... more

Product Expert
Michael,
I'm sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your Liberty pump. While the pump is covered under a 3 year manufacturer warranty, you would need to contact Liberty to verify the problem at hand is indeed caused by a manufacturing defect in the pump. They can be reached at 800-543-2550. If they do deem the pump as defective, please call us or email us with the name of the tech you spoke to and the diagnosis of the pump (not defective) and we'll be happy to initiate the warranty procedure for you per the pump/manufacturer warranty statement listed in the LE51A OWNERS MANUAL. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Jim Owiecki

Liberty Pump Keeps My Vacation Home Working
I installed the Liberty Pump in an existing home built 3 foot diameter. 6 foot deep, brick lined septic tank. I built a PVC pipe framework to stand the pump about 3 feet from the bottom. The outlet of the pump is connected to a 220 foot length of horizontal PVC pipe to the main sewer. There is a 2 inch check valve and ball valve in a horizontal position about 6 feet from the pump. Two 90 degree ells and two 45 degree ells were used in the hookup. I was concerned about enough pump output... more

Liberty Pump = Long Life
Pulled a Liberty pump that was installed outdoors in my yard to mitigate water. Installed in Nov 2005, died exactly 8 years to the month later....designed to run no more than 8hrs at a time - but there were MANY times it ran for days on end! Because the float and AC are hard-wired to a NEMA box - Liberty's design made it easy on me with a removable power cord - didn't even have to open the NEMA box to replace the pump! Took no time at all and I hope to get another 8 years out of the new one -... more
