Q: Im considering purchasing the Pro Series USC3 sump pump controller to replace an existing electronic controller that allows a limited water accumulation of 6 or 8 inches or so. I would like to use the USC3 to allow much more water to accumulate in order to reduce the frequency that the sump cycles on. This would mean the pump would be completely submerged on a regular basis. Does this sound like an acceptable use of the controller? by James P from New Jersey on June 11, 2013
A: The USC3 is an excellent controller for those cases where you want more control over the cycle times of your pump. There is absolutely no problem with having your sump pump completely submerged. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Is the Zoeller N53 pump compatible with the Pro Series USC3 electronic float switch? Thanks. by Anthony from New York on April 25, 2013
A: Yes, the Pro Series USC3 would work fine with the Zoeller N53. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I would like to buy the storm pro 1/3 hp pump but would like level switch to control over a longer span (deep pit with higher flow rates at times) want to minimize cycles. Is there a different longer switch rod that can replace the stock version. by Barry from Minnesota on May 08, 2012
A: Unfortunately not! Your only options would be the Pro Series Ultimate Sensor Pump Controller System, model USC3 or the Superior Pump Wide Angle Tether Float Switch w/ Piggyback Plug, model 92005. The Pro Series switch can be adjusted to pump for 5 - 45 seconds once the water level drops below the sensor and the Superior tether float has an adjustable pumping range of 7” to 36”. by Jim, Product Expert

So Far So Good
I purchased this product because all the Big Box Brands kept failing. My brother installed it for me. I've had it for six weeks in lots of rain and it has not failed me to date. It moves the water fast and it is very quiet.I love the backup monitor. At a glance you can tell that your system is working.
My only advise is that you use a good surge protector. The first one we used must have been bad because the alarms went on that the main pump wasn't working when we plugged the backup unit in. We changed it and all has been fine since. You will also need to purchase a battery.
I thank Sump Pumps Direct for their good advise regarding this purchase.

After experiencing failures in both pressure and tethered type switches I was willing to try out this electronic type. Device acts as both a sump pump switch and an alarm. This is less expensive option since I previously paid for both of these separate devices in the past. Very easy to install. What is great about this product is you can adjust the time perfectly so that is custom made to your sump basin.

Works Fine
My sump has a limited distance range from the pump's inlet to the drain hoses, and as such the range of height is limited. This remote switch solves a lot of problems. First, I was able to mount it (as recommended) away from the discharge hoses, but also not on the actual pump, which will make it far easier to replace the pump in the future. Why do I spend as much on the switch as I did on the pump? It's simple: I have bought two sump pumps (for different applications) in the past 3 months, in both cases the pumps were fine, but the switches have failed! Lately the switches supplied with sump pumps are pure junk, and frankly, I have no desire for failures here, and I REALLY do not want to bother with either sump pump installation for the next 20 years if I can avoid it.
I should also mention that the competence and professionalism of the staff at Sump Pumps Direct is light years ahead of the big box suppliers.

No More Tangled Floats!
I have a sewage pump in a basin with limited space and have had two different cases where the float has become tangled or obstructed. To make matters worse the kitchen sink also empties into the sewage basin and adds kitchen grease to the equation.
I talked to James about the best option and he recommended the USC3 "Ultimate Sensor Pump Controller."
The controller installed easily into my pit and is working flawlessly. The non moving float is a huge improvement over the tether float that the house came with.

Happy!
VERY high quality unit. Built like a battleship with lots of thoughtful features.
A little pricey but worth it to get the mechanism up out of the sump environment.

Upgraded Pump System
I upgraded from a HydroMatic 1/4 HP to this 1/2 HP Liberty Pump. This pump is heavy and extremely quiet. After installing the controller, I was adding water to my sump well to adjust the pump ON time. While waiting for the pump to turn on and still adding water, the water level started to drop rapidly. I didn't even hear the pump kick on and that was the purpose of adding water to the well. So, I had to try again. This time I held onto the pipe to "feel" when the pump kicked on.
As for the Pro Series Controller, I gave it a "4" because of the crappy battery cover and the volume of the built-in alarm. It's very quiet and even in emergency mode, it only chirps a low chirp occasionally.
I added the Watchdog alarm, which is extremely loud, to the remote switch on the controller and it works well. The controller, however, doesn't turn the remote alarm ON unless there's an emergency alarm. The low battery and missing sensor chirps are only audible from the controller itself. The sensing probe on the Watchdog alarm works instantaneously. I will be placing the probe on the floor and running it in parallel with the remote output on the controller. Pretty sweet setup for the price. Highly recommended.
