Q: Is the Storm Pro Ba33m 1/3 HP UL inspected? by Gregory Speicher from Pennsylvania on January 28, 2012
A: No they are not, but they do carry the CSA certification.
CSA International (Canadian Standards Association), a member of the CSA Group, is a provider of product testing and certification services for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas and a variety of other products. Recognized in the U.S., Canada and around the world, CSA’s marks appear on billions of products worldwide.
CSA International certification marks indicate that a product, process or service has been tested to a Canadian or U.S. standard and it meets the requirements of an applicable CSA standard or another recognized document used as a basis for certification. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Re: the Storm Pro BA-33M 1/3 HP. Ok, I cannot visualize the set up for this pump. It looks like the cord goes under water and that does not look safe at all for a sump pump! I have a tub to line the hole it goes into and do you put both units under water? Or below the floor line and eventual water? by Richard Neva from New York on January 16, 2012
A: The pump will sit on a level surface on the bottom of your basin and the vertical float switch will clamp onto your discharge pipe at the height you determine. The vertical float switch does have a differential of 6 1/2". The power cord for the vertical float switch will be plugged into your 120 volt, 15 amp GFCI rated dedicated circuit. Please note that the plug for the vertical float switch is a "piggyback" style plug, just like the plugs on Christmas tree lights that allow you to "string" multiple lines together. The power cord from the pump will then be plugged into the back of the plug from the vertical float switch. The only portion of the cords that are in contact with any water is the portion that is connected to the pump and switch which is normal. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Are pump and switch available with 15' or 20' cords? by Tim Walsh from California on December 21, 2011
A: The float switch is available with a 20 foot cord for $64.99 but there is no option for the pump. Another option would be the 1/2HP model BA-50M that comes with a standard 20 foot cord on both the pump and switch. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I was concerned that as often as our pump works I should have a replacement pump in case the primary fails and an alarm if the power goes out. i was thinking of a pump that is more quiet and then using our old one as a backup. i'm not sure if I like the idea of a battery backup. any suggestions? by Ells Snyder from Maryland on December 10, 2011
A: A backup is never a bad idea as long as you're home when and if "the" event takes place. A BATTERY BACKUP System would be good insurance and would help ease your fears of having some pumping capability should you be away from home when a severe storm hits. Most systems will give you approximately 7 hours of continuous runtime or 24 - 48 hours of non-continuous runtime. The other consideration would be a STANDBY GENERATOR. This option would also give you peace of mind for your pump, refrigerator, heating or cooling, garage door and security system. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I recently purchased a BA-33 sump pump. Is it necessary to drill a hole in the bottom of the discharge pipe? Also how do I install the switch on the discharge pipe to maximize the run cycle? Is it adjustable? Finally- is it OK to go from 1 1/2" ABS pipe comming out of the discharge fitting to 1 1/4" id black plastic where it exits the house [about 7' above the pump] The 1 1/4" black plastic carries the water along and away from the foundation with a steady pitch for approx 30'. by John Szafranski from Massachusetts on October 29, 2011
A: It's always recommended to drill the "weep" hole approximately 4" above the base of the discharge to help prevent air lock. The vertical switch is adjustable in that it actually clamps onto the discharge pipe at any height you wish. The differential on that switch is 6 1/2" and that is not adjustable. As for reducing the discharge from 1 1/2" to 1 1/4", that should not be a problem. You will however realixe a slight loss in your gallons per hour (GPH) rating. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I recently purchased Stormpro BA-33M. I did not get the check valve. I picked up a check valve at a local plumbing outlet. The pump would not work at all with the valve installed, i have installed several of these and was careful to install the valve with the direction correct. I installed the pump without the check valve and it seems to work fine. Will this affect the life of the pump, or cause any problems? It has about a 10 ft. vertical lift and simply drains off into a ditch. Thanks. by Mark Ramsey from Tennessee on June 21, 2011
A: Have you double checked the following possible causes of your problem?
● Check valve is installed backwards. Arrow on valve should point in direction of flow.(Usually pointing up) ● Discharge shut-off valve (if used) may be closed. ● Impeller or volute openings are fully or partially clogged. Remove pump and clean. ● Pump is air-locked. Start and stop several times by plugging and unplugging cord. Check for clogged vent hole in pump case. Drill a 1/8”inch hole into PVC Pipe 4” inches above the pumps discharge. ● Inlet holes in pump base are clogged. Remove pump and clean the openings. ● Vertical pumping distance is too high. Reduce distance or change the discharge fittings of the pump.
If you're sure none of these possibilities are causing the problem, I would suggest calling StormPro tech support at (800) 323-1665 x231 for further assistance. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Jim, Researching sump pumps and leaning towards the purchase of a StormPro BA33 with adjustable height switch. (good reviews) My question is can I purchase an additional switch for my secondary pump? I'm not sure what the model number is and the cost involved. Also, during my wet season, this pump will actuate every couple of minutes. I'm concern over how long the switch lasts! What do you recomend? Several of my pumps have failed due to the switch! Thank you in advance for your help. Joe by Joe Muscatello from Connecticut on June 06, 2011
A: If your secondary pump utilizes a "piggyback" style float switch, then you could replace the switch with no problem. Click HERE for a listing of switches that we offer.
It is very typical for a switch to fail before the actual pump however, sometimes it's just a case of debris in your sump basin getting lodged in your switch. If you determine the switch to be bad, it's then just a matter of locating the correct switch. If the switch is built into the housing of the pump, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the pump and provide the model numper of your pump to see if the switch is available and how involved the replacement would be. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim, I just bought a StomPro BA 33M sump pump.I would like for it to go "ON"at 9 or 9.5 inches.Where on the discharge pipe "height" in relation to the pump body do I attach adjustable switch? At contact pt with float at top, midway of pump body? Thanks so much,Marvin by Marvin Yowe from New York on May 11, 2011
A: Attach your switch to the discharge pipe and set it so the bottom of the vertical float rod housing is at 9 or 9 1/2" from the base of your sump basin. As the float rises, once it reaches the top of the float rod, the pump will switch on. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hello Jim,
I have an old Zoeller sump pump that does not seem to be able to keep up with demand (possibly overheating). I have an 18" diameter by 18" deep hole and I would estimate during peak rain periods a need for a pump to remove up to 36 gallons per minute. This pump seems to be able to do 50 gallons per minute. Is the 1/3 HP StormPro a good choice or should I go to the Simer 3995 I'm considering? I can't determine the current horsepower on my Zoeller... by David Marshall from Indiana on April 22, 2011
A: Either pump will do the job for you as they are both rated for continuous duty and will not overheat, however, you should try to match the GPH and/or HP of your current pump as best you can. Installing a pump that's too powerful will only result in the pump cycling too often and shortening the life of the pump. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Jim, To take advantage of a deep sump pit and reduce the number of run cycles. Which pump would you recommend that has the greatest on/off differential?
Thanks, Dan by Dan Fenstermaker from Minnesota on April 05, 2011
A: Most pumps that include a tether switch tend to have a longer run or pump time which will reduce the number of run cycles. The tether switches can also be adjusted to lenghten or shorten the pumping time or differential. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: i have a truck well that gets water, leaves and a small amount of other junk. i am in florida and the wet season can cause a mess i need a heavy duty pump
by F. T. ESPOSITO from Florida on March 31, 2011
A: I would suggest a sewage pump, most likley a 1/2HP. It would handle the leaves and small debris up to 2 inches. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Jim, What is considered continuous duty applications. My present pump can be on in as little as 1 min intervals. Has operated for several years as such. A True Value Master Mechanic pump. Afraid will one day quit. Reason for shopping for replacement. by Roger L Kopshina Sr from Pennsylvania on March 06, 2011
A: A continous duty rated pump is exactly what the name implies. The pump is capable of running continously, non stop, as the StormPro pump will do. If you need, you can unplug the piggyback switch and plug the pump directly into your outlet in the case you have an emense amount of water to discharge. Most pumps will cycle on and off in a normal operating process. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: How does the sump pump connect to the independent float switch, Does the pump plug into the switch and the switch plugs into the power? by Mark from New Jersey on February 09, 2011
A: Yes, most external float switches utilize this design. It's consider a "Piggyback" style plug. Very similar to how sets of Christmas lights connect to each other. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Would this pump be suitable for a 12' x 12' basement? by Cody Dix from Ohio on January 10, 2011
A: The interior dimensions of a basement aren't a major factor in sizing a sump pump correctly.
Monitoring your current pump during normal operation and during a storm can give you a better idea of what size pump you would need. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim. I know the float can be attached to discharge line. I'm wondering what the maximum On/Off points are. Looking to figure out how many inches of water will be pumped out per cycle. Thanks. by Charlie from New York on January 05, 2011
A: The on/off differential for the float switch is about 6.5". by Jim, Product Expert

Jim's Recommendation
If you’re looking for a heavy-duty pump, choose a StormPro. These pumps were originally sold only by plumbers, contractors and plumbing distributors. Now you have the opportunity to buy what the professionals do.
These pumps are built to last, bottom line. With a volute and motor housing made of cast iron and stainless steel, they will provide years of reliable operation. They also use a cast iron impeller which extends the life of the pump even longer.
StormPro pumps use high efficiency motors that cost less to operate and discharge more water than standard pumps. If you don’t believe it, compare similar HP pumps to these and you’ll see for yourself that these pumps use fewer amps to operate and provide a higher output.
The last reason why we recommend these pumps is because of the float switch. They are adjustable and can be mounted on the discharge pipe. This is a great feature if you have a deep sump pit or if you live in an area with a high water table. You can increase the amount of time between cycles and extend the life of your pump. Last, but not least, since these pumps use a piggyback type switch, they can be replaced if necessary without having to replace the pump.

Sump Review
Warm weather delayed installing the sump pump(high water table) but found the installation extremely easy. Like the way the float is physically separated from pump, allowing options for placement of both units. Quiet operation. Superior to Wayne and Rigid units which used sensor systems and had to have sensors cleaned within a year's use.

StormPro 1/3 HP Sump Pump
Combined the StormPro 1/3 HP pump with the Ion Digital 10in float. The pump is very powerful, it flows more than the 1/2 HP pump we had before. Yet, this thing is super quiet. You can hear the water flow, no motor noise. The Ion float works perfect. The one I got actually provides more like 13in of water level difference between on and off. All in all very happy with this combination.

Pump Worked Great
Pump worked great but the switch would only turn the pump on intermittently. Returned the switch and received a new one right away.

Great Pump!
I needed a sump pump in a hurry. Sump Pump Direct was there. I was on vacation when my neighbor called me to tell me my sump pump was not working. We were flying home that afternoon. I ordered the pump that morning and the very next day the pump arrived at my home. I installed the pump and it works great!
Thank you Sump Pumps Direct!

Silence is Golden
Been using a big box store pedestal style pump for 15 years, replacing it every other year or so. Always hated how load the thing was. No matter where you were in the house you could hear the thing running like it was in the same room with you. After installing the submersible Storm Pro I could not be happier. Silence finally.....................you can not hear this thing run even standing five feet away..

Great Pump So Far, Adjustable Switch Is Nice
We recently discovered our sump pump went out again, instead of buying the same type of pump we went with the Storm-Pro with the adjustable float switch. The float went bad on the last unit and now if it goes bad again we can just replace the switch, not the whole pump.
Swapping out the old pump for this one was a snap, just put the float on your pipe at the height you want and your back in business. Thankfully the water is back down to the normal level and no more water in the basement.
I'd recommend this model to anyone looking for a new primary sump pump.

Defective Pump
My StormPro sump pump BA-33M worked for exactly one second, then died. The pump was very hot, so it obviously burnt out. Had to get a new one from your distributor, Metropolitan Industries. Before you send out your products, you must check them out to make sure they work.

First Pump Installation Ever
After reading reviews and comments, I ordered a BA33M, basin, etc, for a new installation in an older home. Delivery was quick, everything in good shape, and it was time to get to work. Drilling/busting up 100-year-old 4" concrete and digging out Missouri clay in the middle of summer was about as much fun as you can imagine. Some notes from a first-timer that may be helpful to others:
1. I used a hole diameter of 40 inches or so.
2. Drilled holes into concrete using a stout rotary hammer and a long 12" bit, with the holes no more than 3 inches apart. Note: Let the hammer do the work. Don't press down too hard.
3. Jackel recommends 3-4 inches of gravel under the basin. Between that and the gravel around the sides of the basin, I used about 6-7 cu feet of gravel total (allowed 3 inches from top of gravel to basement floor surface).
4. I had 2 x 80 lbs of concrete laying around, and ended up using about 80% of it.
To make a short story long, got the basin installed, PVC hooked up (also a first for me, but easy), dumped some water in the basin, and the pump did it's thing from the get-go.
Thanks to Sump Pumps direct for their fine products and responsiveness. Also thanks to ya'll for taking the time to write informative reviews.

Warranty Problem
After only being installed for 2 months Pump stopped working. Apparently "Sump Pump Direct" does not accept returns or help with warranty problems, they simply give an 1-800 number to call. You are left to deal with the pump company in this case "StormPro".
After several telephone calls, finally able to reach someone, who advised that they would send out a replacement pump. The telephone person was very polite. However, after waiting 2 weeks and still no pump, called "StormPro" again, and had to explain the whole problem again.
Apparently what they neglected to tell was that they did not have the replacement pump in stock, and since they did not have it in stock they could not ship and did not keep a record of the first conversation. In other words, if you did not called back they would not have sent anything.
Finally after another week got replacement pump. Should have just brought the pump at my local home warehouse store. At least they would have taken the pump back on the spot.

I had an older pump in my house that was working, but was worried about it's age and decided it was time to replace. Thank goodness I did. The old pump produced so much vibration that the check valve had cracked and was giving out.
I quickly replaced it with this pump after seeing all the great reviews. This pump is so much quicker than my old one, very silent and little to no vibration. We have been under heavy storms here in the midwest and this pump has been working like a champ. I highly recommend it.
The construction compared to my old pump is really impressive. The weight difference is substantial and you can see the quality difference.

Goodbye Wayne!
Got tired of changing the "cheap" switch that kept "burning up" ,( like pitted points), on my 1-3 hp Wayne pedistal sump pump and decided to go with the StormPro BA-33m with the adjustable float.
Great choice. Easy to install and pumps water much quicker than the Wayne. Only time will tell now if this switch is any better than the Wayne, but so far-so good. Very pleased with the ease of installation and how it has operated for the last month.
Thanks Sump Pumps Direct.

Easy To Install & Working Great
I am very happy with the quality of my new pump. It was easy to install and is working great. It is the best one I've had and the separate float switch works great.
My order arrived very promptly. I would recommend Sump Pumps Direct to everyone.
Tanks for the great service!

Works Perfectly
I choose this pump because it was small enough to fit inside a 5 gallon plastic bucket, which is all I had for a basin. I installed it pretty easily and it works perfectly.
The vertical switch is adjustable and lets me choose where the pump turns on and off. Just installed it so I can't say how reliable it is yet, but it seems quiet and pumps water quickly.

Excellent Pump
I ordered this pump on the recommendation of this site and the reviews, and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. It is very well built, and the switch is an excellent design.
My old pump which I picked up at Home Depot sounded like there was a jet plane taking off in the basement, it vibrated the whole house.
This pump is so smooth and quiet I actually went out and bought a water alarm so I could tell id it wasn't working.
Highly recommended.

No Complaints
I had a pedestal pump for years. I am very pleased with the BA-33M. It was easy to install. It is very quite and the capacity is great.
No complaints. I am glad I took the tip and drilled an air hole.

Great service & great pump
I bought this pump to replace a Zoeller that wouldn't turn off. Luckily for me, I have two pits and when the Zoeller wouldn't turn off, the other Zoeller took over. I wanted something a step up from the Zoeller after it lasted me about 18 months. I live in an area where there is a lot of ground water so the pump was on every 30 seconds sometimes.
The StormPro installed in a flash and is so quiet. It's a workhorse and pumps very quickly for a one third hp. I feel good knowing that the electrical amp difference between the StormPro and my Zoeller is cut in half and the StormPro pumps almost 1,000 gallons more per hour.
Instead of running every 35 seconds because of the small range of the float on the Zoeller - it was turning on more frequently - the longer range of the StormPro float has it running every 80 seconds. I'm hoping this will lengthen the life of it.
StormPro's screen at the bottom helps keep it from getting clogged. Service was great and delivered in 1 day. So far, this is a great pump!

StormPro Sump Pump
Received my new pump last night and installed it this morning with a forecast of more torrential rain.
My old pump (not StormPro) had developed an intermittent electrical problem and I could no longer trust it to keep working during a storm. Pump failure would mean another big bill to fix a drowned heating plant!
I am a professional engineer and this little pump has almost twice the discharge as my old pump at the same horsepower. The ABS discharge pipe goes through a 90 degree fitting into an outside cistern and there was so much momentum reaction at the outlet that the pipe rose 6" when the pump was running I had to put a concrete slab on it to hold it down!
I can tell that I won't have any problems with this pump keeping up in a torrential rain.
I also like the design of the fully adjustable external float switch.
Great product and very timely delivery. Thanks!

Great
Everything is great about these two items. Plus it arrived within 2 days. The pump and check valve are super quiet.
My setup is for a basement laundry tub and small bar sink. I also have a water softner that drains into it and a septic system.
I also added the small bleed hole as you suggested and although I never had this before (35 years) with previous pumps it makes sense. I use to get bad odors from sump area but so far nothing.
It must be the check valve and/or the bleed hole helped.
But my cheap Wayne plastic pump was still working after 10 years but I feel this new combination is great. Worth the price.
