Q: what is the difference between a sewer injector pump and a sump pump? can i use the same pump for each activity? thanks
by Russell Abrams from New York on October 29, 2012

A: Sewer ejector pumps will generally provide a higher pumping capacity and the ability to pump up to 2 inch solids whereas most sump pumps max out at about 5000-6000GPH and MAY only handle small solids up to 1/2 of an inch. Please keep in mind however, that your sewage ejector pumps also require a 2 inch discharge pipe to be installed to achieve the above stated specs. Use of a sewage ejector pump in a sump application is fairly common for high pumping capacity applications as long as the discharge is installed correctly. You do NOT want to use a sump pump in a sewage application however!!

Q: Can you set the on depth and off depth on the dual sensor switch, like on at 1/2 ft and off at 3"?
by Don F from Minnesota on July 15, 2012

A: The dual float switch actually works on a timer once the float is raised a 1/4" from it's original position. Once the float is raised, it will activate the pump. Once the float is back in it's original position, the pump will operate for an additional 10 seconds and stop until the pump is activated again. You can set the level at which you want the pump to activate however.

Per the instructions for the Pro Series S3100:

Position the float switch to a level where the bottom of the float cage is no lower than 3 above the bottom of the pump and no higher than 1 below the top of the pit. To avoid debris pouring into the float, it should be positioned on the side of the discharge pipe opposite the drain tile. Note: It is important to mount the float below the drain tile that empties into the pit. Mounting it above the drain tile would allow water to fill the drain tile before the pump is activated to pump out the water.

Q: for my cabin i need a sump pump that will have a lift of 40 ft and less than 10 gaper minute. the distance is 42 feet. what size of discharge pipe will be needed and also a check valve thank you
by Dave Higgins from Washington on August 06, 2011

A: The Pro Series model S3100 is the only sump pump we currently offer that is capable of pumping a 40 foot vertical lift (max. 50Ft.), however it will be pumping at approximately 32 GPH at that height. that pump requires a 2" discharge and check valve.

Q: What is a dual vertical sensor switch?
by Mitch Miller from Montana on June 11, 2011

A: The dual float switch contains two large floating rings enclosed within a protective cage. Water will lift the bottom float by a 1⁄4, which will activate the pump. If for any reason the lower float does not activate the pump, the water will rise and
activate the second switch. As the pump evacuates the water from the pit the floats will drop. The pump will run for an additional 10 seconds to extend the cycle after the lower float drops.
Note: When mounting the float switch, position the
bottom of the cage at the height you want the pump to activate.

An Expensive Disappointment
Why would anyone develop this pump and control it with a float that only allows it to run for 40 seconds?? The biggest weakness of any sump pump is the ON AND OFF SWITCH. My pump runs 288 times each day. It has run 4,608 time since it was professionally installed 16 days ago. I figure my 500 dollar pump will last approximately four months.
Cons: Terrible float

You might want to consider a different type of switch. Tether switches will allow longer run times.

Pro Series S3100
The pump. I have a flood prone basement so having a reliable system is a must. I was willing to pay 2.5 times more than the best rated pump because my existing pump that I inherited with the house is the same model and it would be easier to swap without reconfiguring. Plus this pump has the most GPH compared to other 1HP models. Every little bit helps when in heavy rains both the main the backup are pumping non-stop and barely keeping up and with the inflow. The pump is well built and does the... more

Thank you for your review and feedback of our product. Sorry to hear you feel the instructions were not clear. We spend great attention to detail in our manuals and on our products. You do mention the adjustable timer dial located in the battery compartment of the Deluxe Dual Float controller, this is a great feature and is discussed in the owner’s manual. It can be overlooked. The zip ties that are included with the switch allows you to use alternative means to hang the switch other than a wall mount. They are not intended to mount the cable cords. I will be sure to pass your feedback on to the appropriate people. If you have ever have any questions about your system or need clarification on something please contact our Service team at 800-991-0466 option 3. We are here to help and available from 9-5 Monday through Friday C.T.

VERY high quality unit. Built like a battleship with lots of thoughtful features.
A little pricey but worth it to get the mechanism up out of the sump environment.

Sump Pump For 200' Curtain Drain
Placed pump in a collection vault serving a 200' curtain drain. Pump and controls worked well as the manufacturer intended. Durability will take time to ascertain. With a 4ft diameter concrete vault, the pump cycles very quickly. The combination of pump and controller, cycles too quickly, 30 seconds between on and off. This size pump really requires selenoid switch controls with and on float and an off float in order to lengthen the pump cycle.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast
Cons: Pump Cycle Is Too Short Even With Relatively Large Sump Vault

Thank you for your review we are happy that you are pleased with the S3100 this is a very strong pump. Also We would like to reassure you in knowing that this particular switch can be adjusted to run up to a 45 second cycle. With this adjustment and raising the switch to kick on a little later we believe that you will have a more efficient pump cycle. If you do have further questions please contact us at 800.991.0466 ext. 3 for technical support.
