Automatic Submersible Cast Iron Sump Pump
A "workhorse" designed for years of reliable operation
Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
How reliable is the magnetic vertical float, and can it be replaced or repaired if it fails in 2-3 years?
Richard K.

Answer
The Liberty VMF vertical float switch has been very reliable and probably one of the more reliable switches. While these are more prone to fail however, over the actual pump, they can be replaced if needed. Unfortunately, we do not offer these, so you would need to contact Liberty tech support (800-543-2550) for assistance on this when needed.

This pump requires a 10" diameter basin, but what about depth? Could I use it in a 5 gallon bucket that has an 11 inch diameter, and is 14 inches deep? My window well space is too small for a 22" deep sump basin

Answer
B Crotty,
I would not recommend putting a sump pump in a 5-gallon bucket.
18x22 is a standard basement pit.

Considering making the Liberty model 257 my primary sump pump and then making our existing Zoeller an emergency backup. We have a lot of iron in our water. Would the aluminum model 237 be better or worse for high iron content?

Answer
There really isn’t an advantage over cast iron or aluminum for you application. My concern would be the iron building up on the float of a model 237 and not allowing it to operate properly. You would need to periodically inspect it and clean it off. The other option if you have the room is to go with a model 233 which has a tether float switch.

What kind of warranty do you have on your pumps?
John

Answer
Pump warranties vary from 1 year to 5 years depending on the pump and the manufacturer. That being said, all pumps should last a good 5-7 years or more providing they are installed properly.
