  1 Question
Q: What does min. sump basin size mean?
by John D from Massachusetts on February 02, 2013

A: The minimum sump basin size relates to the minimum size of your sump basin or pit, that a specific pump will safely operate in. Any pump needs a certain amount of space due to "on/off" levels, cooling factors and cycling that the pump is designed for. Most pumps will require a standard size basin of 18" wide by 24" deep but some will also operate in smaller basins. You want to pay very close attention to these requirements as they will insure a longer pump life.

Sump Pump
I am not currently using the sump pump as it will be saved for a back-up.
I have three pumps in my basement and all three are Wayne pumps. I have used them now for probably 6-7 years and had my first failure this year.

After we got through the shipment problem I finally got it. I'm just glad I didn't need it right away, or I would have been in trouble.

Wayne Pump
This Wayne CDU790 1/3HP Cast Iron pump was purchased as a back up pump for my present pump which is a Wayne CDU750 x 1/2 with genius level control which is no longer manufactured. My present pump is 9 years old and I wanted a backup pump so if I have a problem in the middle of the night or on a weekend I now have a spare pump on hand. I wish Wayne still made the CDU750 with its genius float control which has no moving parts.

Quiet
Wayne has always had a great reputation for quality sump pumps. The vertical float doesn't get hung up on the side of the pit. The pump is very quiet when it runs.
