BWC1 questions: 1. Is the 15 amp limit for pump start or run amps? (Many pumps have start amps greater than 15) Will this work with a pump that has start 23 amps and run 10 amps or a pump that has start 16 amps and run 7.5 amps? 2. What is the distance between the bottom and upper float rings? For instance, if the bottom float ring fails then how much higher will the water go before the upper float ring is activated? 3. What are the dimensions of the BCW1? Thank you.

Answer
Thank you for your interest in Sump Pumps Direct, Frank!
The ratings listed for the Basement Watchdog, like all other piggyback float switches that we offer, refer to the pump running amps. MOST are rated for 120V.
The water would need to raise about another 2-3/4 inches if the bottom float does not activate the pump.
The "cage" dimensions for the floats are 5"L X 2-1/8"D.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

I have a utility vault that i need to control water infiltration on. I have to control the pump within a 4" vertical rise in water. What switch will work for me. The vault does not have a sump area and i cannot put one in. Thats the reason for the four inch problem. I need it to come on when there is two or three inches of water in the vault.

Answer
What are the dimensions of the vault? Depending on the area, the Basement Watchdog Dual Vertical Float Switch & Controller may do the job for you.
The dual float switch contains two large floating rings enclosed within a protective cage. Water will lift the bottom float by a 1⁄4", which will activate the pump. If for any reason the lower float does not activate the pump, the water will rise and activate the second switch. As the pump evacuates the water from the pit the floats will drop. The pump will run for an additional 10 seconds to extend the cycle after the lower float drops.
Note: When mounting the float switch, position the bottom of the cage at the height you want the pump to activate.

Another option might be the Pro Series Ultimate Sensor Pump Controller System, model USC3. This system has a minimum installation of 3" above the bottom of the pump However, if you have a larger area to evacuate, this system can be programed to run your pump anywhere from 5-45 seconds from the time the water level drops below the sensor. In addition, this controller controller is that it will sound an alarm when problems exist or maintenance is needed. The controller will also run the pump once a week for approximately four (4) seconds. This test will exercise the pump and help ensure the pump is working properly.
The PHCC Pro Series Ultimate Solid State Controller features a series of warnings (audible and visual) that pinpoint potential problems with the pump, sensor and power conditions. The controller will sound an alarm when power has been interrupted, when the pump has run for more than 10 minutes continuously, when the 9V battery is low or if the controller detects a weak or no signal from the sensor. The 9V battery (sold separately) runs the controller during a power outage, allowing it to sound an alarm if the circuit breaker trips, the controller is not plugged in securely, or the home’s power is interrupted.
Note: The 9V battery will only power the controller, not the pump.

No, the timer is built into the controller and there are no adjustments available. You might take a look at the Pro Series Ultimate Sensor Pump Controller System, model USC3.
