Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
I recently purchased a Liberty Pumps 280 series (non-automatic with a Pro Series DFC2 Controller). How many starting/running watts are needed for this pump?

Answer
That Liberty 280 pump uses 8 amps for running and 23 amp for starting. Based on that, you would need a generator with a minimum starting wattage of 2760 watts to handle that pump. (Amps X Volts = Watts) Since we recommend a 20% buffer for generators, that would put you at a recommended minimum of 3312 watts.

Answer
Generally, sump pumps are not recommended for use in a water softener and/or laundry application. Just about all manufacturers will void the warranty if the pump is installed and fails in this application. You might check out our selection of LAUNDRY / DRAIN PUMP SYSTEMS as most of these self contained systems are designed for laundry and water softener applications.
