I would like to draw water from a pond to use for lawn care. Vertical lift would be ~ 12-20' with potentially up to 100' of hose running to gardens. What would be an appropriate pump for this configuration? thanks, scott

Scott,
Thank you for your interest in Sump Pumps Direct. Before I can answer your question, I would need to know the following:

What are your GPM and PSI requirements?

Can you also please tell me a little more about your application?

I USE 2 WAYNE PUMPS. ONE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SUMP AND ONE TOWARDS THE TOP AS i SOMETIMES GET A LOT OF WATER AND NEED THE EXTRA PUMP AND ALSO USE FOR BACKUP. I HAVE BEEN USING THE WAYNE CDU980. EVERY YEAR I HAVE TO BUY A NEW PUMP AS THE PUMP NO LONGER WORKS. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? I NEED TO BUY 2 MORE SPARES BUT AM TIRED OF RPLACING THESE PUMPS EACH YEAR. THE BOTTOM PUMP GETS ALL RUSTY AND THEN STOPS PUMPING. ADVISE? i HAVE A FRENCH DRAIN SYSTEM.

Answer
It's possible that you are using too strong of a pump. Perhaps a 1/3HP or 1/2HP pump would be sufficient? When it comes to sump pumps, bigger is not better. By using a pump that is over-sized for your application, the pump will cycle much more frequently which is not good for the pump and thus reduce the life of that pump. Since you are already using a 2 pump system, think about replacing that main pump with a model CDU790 1/3HP or model CDU800 1/2HP pump and keep the CDU980 for your "secondary" pump to take up the slack.

Actually, we really do not offer any pumps that are specifically designed for use in a water softener application. You might however, check out our selection of STORMPRO pumps. These pumps are designed to handle salt water and would hold up better than some of our other brands.

What kind of warranty do you have on your pumps?

Answer
Pump warranties vary from 1 year to 5 years depending on the pump and the manufacturer. That being said, all pumps should last a good 5-7 years or more providing they are installed properly.

My sump pump has been acting up and I think it is time to replace it. My basin is 11 1/2 by 11 1/2 and 22 inches deep. The pump is used for moving water from the washing machine to the sewage pipe. I was looking at the Wayne CDU 3/4 HP. Do you think this would be a good fit.

Answer
You might actually check out the Wayne 1/3 HP Pre-Assembled Laundry Tray System, model SYLT30 as an alternative. This system is specifically designed for laundry applications. Due to the chemicals associated with laundry detergents and the bleach, standard sump and sewage pumps are not designed to handle them and will tend to fail sooner than normal.

Wayne cdu980e 3/4, how much electricity is used to run in watts. I want to hook up a gas elect. generator & need to know what this pump draws in watts.

Answer
The running watts required for this Wayne pump is 1200 watts. Unfortunately, we do not have the starting watts rating that would be required, which is just as important. You might try calling Wayne tech support at 800-237-0987 for that information. Also, please note that any number that you get, including the 1200 running watts would need to be multiplied by 20% to insure the generator would always have enough power (running and starting watts) to provide.

What is the min sump basin size for the Zoeller M98 1/2 sump pump?

Answer
Most submersible sump pumps are designed to be used in standard basins that are 18" in diameter and 24" deep. Pumps can be used in smaller basins, but it does shorten the life of the pump.

On the specs tab on each sump pumps web page, you can find the dimensions of the pump.

What is a Vertical Float Switch?
Jon

Answer
A vertical float switch is a ball that floats above the water. As the water level rises so does the float which, at some point, it will trigger the switch to turn the pump on. This float has limited movement up and down and side to side, giving it less freedom of movement and less of a chance to get stuck as a tethered float would.
