Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
Does this pump require a weep hole?
Michael J.

Answer
While most sump and sewage should have a weep hole drilled in the discharge pipe, this Wayne pump does not require it. This is due to their top suction design. Where most pumps suck the water in through the bottom and underneath the base, this pump sucks the water in from around the top of the base. I always say that, no matter what, it's never a bad idea to drill the weep hole, but with this style of pump, it's not as important.

Jim,
I lost 1 of my 2 sump pumps. I am looking to replace/upgrade. My pumps are 1/3 Hp pedestal pumps w/ vertical float rods. Which is better / preferable pump style I see several styles on your site? I am looking for 1/2 or 2/3 HP to keep up with the water.

Answer
The submersible pumps are generally quieter and run cooler, thereby more efficient. Pedestal pumps on the other hand will give you a little more control over the cycle times. Both will last for a good 5-7 years will proper care and maintenence.

I need to replace my old pump with a new one. It has to pump vertical 10 ft. than it has to go about another 40 to 50ft to the drain. Can you give me an ideal of what to get

Answer
Typically, you'll want to replace it with the same HP rating as your original pump unless that pump had a difficult time keeping up with the incoming water, in which case you should only increase the HP by 1/4. As an example, if your original pump was rated at 1/3HP, replace it with a 1/2HP pump.
Our Zoeller and StormPro pumps are our best sellers, but all the pumps we offer are of excellent quality.
