Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
Do you make a switch with a longer down rod to give the float more travel? Once the switch is engaged, I need a greater range from on to off of the switch. Thanks

Answer
Thank you for your interest in Sump Pumps Direct. Unfortunately, we do not offer any vertical float switches with a longer on/off range. Another option however, might be the PHCC Pro Series Ultimate Sensor Digital Pump Controller System, model USC3 which gives you the ability to control your pump run time from 5-45 seconds of the HydroCheck Electronic Hi-Lo Pump Switch, model HC6000 which includes 2 sensors, one for your "On" point and one for your "Off" point. Please note that these switches are for use with any sump pump rated up to a maximum 12-14 running amps.

Jim. Any reason I cannot cut off the piggyback plug and install crimp terminals to use on my battery back up pump. I only need a normally open contact in the switch when the water is at a normal level that closes on water rise make it work. My tethered float switch is too unreliable

Answer
Per the manufacturer, it can be done. However it would void warranty.

Hello Jim, what is the max full load amps the Storm pro vertical switch can handle? I have a heavy duty pump that is 15 Full Load Amps. If can't handle do you have any recommendations other than a tether?
Thanks, TC

Answer
They don't really list a full amp rating for the StormPro vertical float switch. Typically, the max running amp rating is 15 and it will normally handle most surges associated with it. You should be ok at 15 Full Load Amps.

Can I buy a longer shaft to get more range from the switch.
Ron Decker

Answer
Unfortunately not. This switch has a 6 1/2 inch differential. Another option might be a TETHER switch. They are adjustable and can have a wider switching range.

Can this float switch be used with a 12 volt dc backup sump pump?
Is it adjustable or fixed limit?
David Nash
from Illinois
January 05, 2011
Answer
This float switch has a 120V piggyback plug. It would only work with a dc backup system that can accommodate it.
The factory set on/off differential for this switch is about 6.5". Small adjustments can be made to alter that differential.
